Strategic planning is a comprehensive discussion between farmers and BioActive Soils consultants which identifies the annual goals for the farm and the most efficient means to achieve those goals. Strategic planning is a five-step process which determines where to spend time, energy and finances. Step one determines the starting point or the current state of affairs; how many hectares in the pasture, how many in the crop, how many in transition, etc. Step two identifies levels of importance: how much crop v pasture is needed for the winter grazing, etc. Step three defines what must be achieved: how much feed must be grown for “x” stock units. Step four determines who is responsible or accountable for each step along the way. Step five reviews and evaluates how the plan is working. Here at BioActive Soils, we call this collaborative practice and it is the heart of the business relationships we wish to foster.
