On 1 November, BioActive Soils was awarded a commendation in Environmental Innovation at the Environment Southland Annual Awards. We are so proud of the team of staff and other supportive individuals that have joined us on this journey.
At BioActive Soils in Kennington, waste seafood products are being transformed into something with the potential to have a major impact on our land. Steve Ellison and his team want to give life back to the soils we rely on so heavily for production and have spent most of the last year fine-tuning their product to get the very best from it. Fish, oyster, lobster and kina waste is being turned into a high-value soil conditioning fertiliser, eliminating pressure on landfills, reducing the use of chemicals on farms and enhancing the production of healthy soil life. They’re a nominee in this year’s Southland Community Environment Awards.
